LABBRA E TERRA. This is the story of a rebirth. This is a representation of a woman who decides to start over. Illness has debilitated her physicality, which she slowly rebuilds and looks ahead. Facing a window, in the abandoned house of her childhood, she can now enjoy this new dawn and the sirocco wind that warmly carries the sea breeze and all the smells of the garden she lives under her window. The violets and the smell of red fruit lipstick that fills those dirty lips with the earth she kissed to feel alive again.

I

Bathed in golden glow,
I dare to step
into the void of a house, lying fallow,
carrying the echo of bygone times –
voices of the family nest,
entwined in joy.

Passing relics of the past,
in the embrace of caring solitude,
I bare my smooth head – stained with pain.
I visit the bedroom of years gone by,
raising clouds of dust with my breath,
and with trembling fingers
I caress the moldy walls.

And before the window, devoured by time,
I anoint my lips, chapped with longing,
wishing to lift the curses from myself;
and the warm, sea breeze
carries the fragrance of endless fields of violets,
stretching all the way to the horizons.

And in the undergrowth of violet leaves,
in the currant gardens,
embracing this ruin of the past,
I gather the shattered pieces.
Falling to my knees,
I offer kisses to the raw soil,
which, adorning my lips, allows me
to taste the flavor
– of rebirth.
